Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services

The Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services Program of Study prepares students for careers focused on diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients. Students develop foundational knowledge of healthcare systems, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, patient care, and clinical procedures while gaining hands-on experience in a healthcare setting.

Throughout the program, students learn to:

  • Apply medical terminology and healthcare concepts
  • Understand human anatomy and physiology
  • Demonstrate patient care and safety practices
  • Perform basic clinical skills and procedures
  • Explore careers in diagnostic and therapeutic healthcare services

Principles of Health Science introduces students to the healthcare industry, medical terminology, ethics, safety practices, and a variety of health science careers. Students develop foundational knowledge and skills used throughout the healthcare field.

Health Science Theory builds upon foundational healthcare knowledge by exploring anatomy and physiology, disease processes, infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, and patient care. Students develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in clinical settings.

Anatomy and Physiology focuses on the structure and function of the human body. Students study body systems, the relationship between anatomy and physiology, and the processes that maintain health and homeostasis.   • Explain how body systems interact to maintain health

Practicum in Health Science is a supervised, work-based learning experience that allows students to apply classroom instruction in a clinical environment. Students work alongside healthcare professionals while developing technical, communication, and professional skills required in the healthcare industry.

Admission Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Meet district and clinical placement requirements
  • Successfully complete any required background screening
  • Receive instructor approval (if applicable)

Students will gain experience in:

  • Providing patient-centered care
  • Practicing healthcare safety and infection control
  • Applying medical knowledge in clinical settings
  • Developing professionalism and workplace communication
  • Preparing for postsecondary education and healthcare careers

Industry-Based Certifications

Students who successfully complete this program have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications that validate their technical skills, clinical knowledge, and workplace readiness.
