The Navarro Health Science program where students will finish our 4-year health science sequence with knowledge of the structure of the healthcare system, various healthcare career pathways, basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology, and patient care techniques.
The Health Science program is under the umbrella of the CTE (career technical education) department, which promotes career-readiness.
The program is taught by Kristin Handselburton. Kristin is a Radiologic Technologist with advanced certification in Computed Tomography. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Neurobiology.
Students will then be eligible to test for and obtain their certification as either a C.C.M.A(certified clinical medical assistant) or a pharmacy technologist. These certifications allow students to immediately pursue employment in the high-demand healthcare field. Students will also be well-prepared to enter a two-year vocational health science degree program (such as R.N. registered nurse, R.T. radiology technologist, or surgical technologist). Additionally, students will graduate prepared to enter 4-year programs such as a B.S.N. (bachelor’s of science in nursing).
Entry-level pharmacy techs can expect to earn around $12 to $14 per hour.
Entry-level C.C.M.A.’s can expect to earn around $14 - $17 per hour.
After students obtain a 2-year, post-secondary, associate’s degree in health science their entry level salary range is 58,000 – 72,000 per year (or $24- $34 per hour)!
