To enroll and remain enrolled in Austin ISD and Navarro Early College High School, students must reside within district attendance boundaries or qualify through an approved enrollment option. Residency verification ensures students are enrolled based on their legal residence.
Austin ISD reserves the right to investigate residency when necessary.
Proof of Residency Requirements
The parent or legal guardian of a student must present a valid government-issued photo ID and one of the following documents showing their name and current residential address:
- Current lease agreement
- Recent utility bill (within 45 days)
- Recent mortgage statement (within 45 days)
- Recent property tax receipt
Residency documentation must reflect the parent or guardian’s physical residence.
Families Residing with Another Household
If a parent or legal guardian and student are residing with another household and the parent/guardian’s name is not listed on the lease, mortgage, or utility documentation, additional residency verification is required.
Required documentation:
- A declaration of residency completed by the homeowner or lease holder
- Proof of residency from the homeowner or lease holder
- Valid identification for the parent/guardian and the homeowner or lease holder
To be considered valid, the Declaration of Residency must be signed by both parties in the presence of the campus registrar or a notary public, with the notary’s seal if applicable.
Students in Temporary or Unstable Housing
Students experiencing homelessness or temporary living situations may qualify for enrollment protections under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act and may enroll without typical residency documentation.
Families in temporary housing should notify campus staff so available supports and enrollment protections can be provided.
School Attendance Boundaries & Transfers
Students are expected to attend the school assigned to their residential address unless approved through a transfer or special program placement. Examples may include:
- Magnet or application-based programs
- Special education or bilingual services not offered at the home campus
- Dual language or specialized curriculum programs
- District-approved transfer programs
Transfer approvals may be revoked if attendance, academic performance, behavior, or parent cooperation requirements are not met.
